Since January 2004, Rapid has been in contact with suppliers in order to ascertain product RoHS status and the availability of RoHS compliant parts. Initially, suppliers struggled to provide the required information, however, as Rapid applied pressure and the implementation date approaches, we are now receiving much more comprehensive data from suppliers.

Rapid´s procurement department has been busy too. Product managers and buyers have been working with both existing and new suppliers in order to ensure that existing products are converted and new additions to our range are already compliant. This is all part of our long-term strategy to provide our customers with the products and support that they require for their businesses whilst meeting legislative and environmental requirements.

Rapid has worked closely with other members of the Afdec organisation in order to ensure where possible that a uniform approach to the RoHS and WEEE directives is applied across the distribution sector. Valuable information has been shared at these meetings and many potential problems have been avoided as a result.

Rapid has created a list of all products that could fall under the RoHS directive and included the product´s current status against each code. As we are advised of any changes, then the list is updated accordingly. This list is available to all customers.

We are monitoring our products to ensure that we clear noncompliant stocks first. Once we have confirmed that we only hold compliant stock of a code, we will amend the product description to append the letters “RC”, (used to denote RoHS Compliance). This description appears on the product label that is affixed to each part, the delivery note and the invoice, so it clearly identifies compliant stock to the customer.

Our staff have been made aware of the directives and will be able to assist you with your queries. In addition, we publish and regularly update information about the directive and the actions that we are taking on our website. We will also include links to related websites that may prove useful to you, including links to recycling companies, or companies specialising in resolving RoHS related production issues.
